THE time has come to don the purple clothes, scoff the plum cakes and wave the mauve balloons in aid of the Chemotherapy Appeal.
Here at the North Devon Gazette offices we’ve pulled out all the purple stops and have kitted out the NDG offices with balloons and selling purple cakes and candles.
Plenty of places are going purple potty this year and it is looking like this one will be the biggest and best yet – but you still have time to join in the fun.
Staff and volunteers at North Devon District Hospital will be going for it big time, with numerous departments dressing in purple (where clinical duties permit) plus there is a Big Purple Day raffle. Tickets are available in the foyer and there are hampers, teddy bears and a hand-crafted handbag as prizes.
North Devon Council staff at the Civic Centre, the Big Sheep, both Barnstaple McDonald’s restaurants, Parkside Barnstaple, Sainsburys, Tesco and many more will be getting involved.
In the town centre, Barnstaple Coffee Shop are selling purple cakes and East and West Bakery have pulled out all the stops with a fantastic balloon display.
Owner Graham Principe said: “We’ve hidden purple butterflies on some of the cakes - if you find one you wina £10 voucher and we’ll donate £10 to the appeal.”
In Green Lanes, volunteers are selling off raffle tickets to win a brand new car, and at Lloyds and Natwest banks there are purple cakes for all to enjoy.
Reporters Sarah Howells and Elliot Anderton are ‘purpling’ today and roaming Barnstaple with their cameras!
