The town council also made a very special presentation to Jim Weeks, who has been serving as the town crier for 30 years.

He was given a special hand-crafted figure by John Butler, and a certificate to mark his long service and dedication.

Town clerk Heather Blackburn said: “Jim is a very familiar figure within the town, with his uniform, and his tap-tapping of his staff before he rings his bell.

“He is very well known and has been doing this for thirty years; he started doing this for the town council on May 10, 1984.”
