Pathfinder centre to become personal training studio?

Braunton’s former Pathfinder centre could become a fitness suite if planning permission is granted.

A PERSONAL training studio could be opening in the centre of Braunton if planning permission is granted by North Devon Council.

Martin Mulligan, who owns Berkeley Fitness in Clifton, Bristol, is hoping to open his second fitness suite in the village.

A planning application for 3 The Square, formerly the Pathfinder Centre, was lodged this month to change the use of the ground floor from offices to a fitness suite.

In the planning application, Mr Mulligan outlined the studio would be a similar size to his Clifton based business with the first floor remaining as rented office space.

The centre could provide a base for seven or eight personal trainers but would only have around two or three training people at any one time.

Mr Mulligan, who lives in Croyde with his partner Yvette Curtis, said he believed a small personal training business would compliment other businesses in the area.

“We’ve spoken to businesses like Hands On who have been supportive of the idea and we hope we could work with them,” said Mr Mulligan.

“Yvette is a personal trainer and will be the first trainer working there but we’ve had some interest from local trainers who would be interested in using the centre.

“It’s not just a business for holiday makers, its something the locals can enjoy and use all year round whether they’re athletes or just looking to lose a bit of weight.

“I’m estimating to get the decision maybe June, and there’s no reason why we can’t be open as soon as possible after that.”
