Andy Seward, 67, of Ashburton, Devon, was helped from his wheelchair to carry the flame through the village in May.

Mr Seward coached football in the county as well as innovating football league matches for schoolboys in Zambia and setting up a sports institute in Papa New Guinea.

He was also the driving force and main fundraiser behind building a village sports pavilion in Devon and was a classroom assistant for disabled children.

After a lifetime of devoting his time to helping communities through sport, Mr Seward was left stricken with Parkinson’s disease.
