Picture special: Gathering of all things military to mark Armed Forces Day in the region.
NORTH Devon Veterans Association held a free exhibition at Kingsley School in Bideford on Saturday to mark Armed Forces Day.
The event offered a chance to inspect weapons, equipment and images, and meet and chat to wartime veterans.
It was opened by Bideford Mayor Simon Inch at 10am, with a special drum service in memory of the fallen at 11am. Other distinguished visitors included Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon plus his predecessor Lord John Burnett.
The armed services were represented by members of 6 Rifles, the Commando Logistics Regiment plus Royal Navy Medics from RMB Chivenor.
David Woodmason, association secretary, said this was the first year the exhibition had been held and it had been a great success: “The school was very pleased with what was on display — they said it was like having a mini war museum down form London” he said.
“We are hoping to hold the event again next year, once we have sat down and talked it through.”
