Andrew Cotton will be attending the ‘Oscars of Surfing’ after catching a potentially world-record breaking wave in Nazaré this year.
NORTH Devon’s big wave surfer Andrew Cotton will find out next week if the giant wave he surfed in February has broken the world record.
The plumber from Braunton will be attending the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards at the Grove Theatre in California next Friday.
Known as the ‘Oscars of Surfing’, Cotton’s monster wave caught at Nazaré in Portugal in February has been entered into the Ride of the Year entry.
Cotton is up against four other nominees in a bid to win a $10,000 prize.
He also surfed a huge wave at the same spot in October last year, and was featured on BBC’s Newsnight in an interview with Jeremy Paxman.
