MEN around North Devon have been rallying together and growing their ‘tache for cash to raise money for Movember.

The charity encourages ‘Mo Bros’ to grow their facial hair for November and raise awareness of men’s health.

The Croyde ‘Mow’ vember crew, made up of the Country Gardens Croyde team and other locals, has raised more than £2,000 for the cause.

The team rallied together after team member Katy Goodwin found out her father had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Mo team captain Bruce Harris said: “We wanted to do Movember anyway but when this happened we decided we absolutely had to do it.

“We wanted to show our support and raise money for a great cause.”

The team will be hosting a ‘shave off’ at the Kings Arms in Georgeham tomorrow (Sat) night, from 7.30pm.

Anyone wishing to make donations can pop into Surfing Croyde Bay in Hobbs Hill, Croyde, or find the Croyde ‘Mow’ vember team on the Movember website.

Bideford fire station and members of the local police force have also taken part in the charity challenge for the third year in a row.

Neil Blackburn, group commander, said many people had seen them at callouts and said they would donate to the cause.

“Every year we’re not allowed the same moustache, so there’s been a few interesting designs,” he said.

“It’s about raising awareness and even if just one person gets checked in one of the well man clinics available that is a good result for us.”

Members of Bideford, Barnstaple and Ilfracombe Round Tables and Team Maynard Johns will also be rid of their facial hair tomorrow at the Joiners Arms in Bideford.

The boys will be engaging the services of a local barber to take away their good work in one fell swoop and hope to earn a few extra quid in the process.

Greg Schofield, a representative of the local Round Table group, said: “It’s been an itchy and uncomfortable month for many of traditionally clean shaven guys and most of us will be pleased to see the back of our facial hair.

“We wanted to get involved in Movember this year for a bit of fun and because men’s health is an area largely ignored by mainstream media.”
