A long-serving councillor has been chosen as the new chairman for North Devon Liberal Democrats.

Alan Rennles has more than 25 years of experience in local politics, having served as parish councillor for Swimbridge, district councillor for Landkey and is currently a Barnstaple town councillor and Fremington parish councillor.

Mr Rennles said: “I am delighted with the recent by-election victories where we won two district council seats and two town and parish seats from the Tories.

“This resurgence has been seen throughout Devon where we recently won three other by election seats in Teignbridge and Chudleigh. These are challenging times and we are restructuring ready for the 2019 district, town and parish elections.

He added: “There is no doubt about it. People are fed up with the austerity policies being imposed on them. This is being felt across every aspect of North Devon lives. Health, education, highways, county and district council services are all impacted and the public are not prepared to put up with it.”
