Chief executive Jac Kelly will leave the NHS in April for new pastures.

THE chief executive of Northern Devon Healthcare Trust is to leave the NHS, it was announced today (Tuesday).

Jac Kelly, who has with the trust for eight years, has decided to step down from her role in April.

The announcement was made at a board meeting today by trust chairman Roger French, who said she would be a hard act to follow.

“Jac has always been very open that she planned to leave in 2014 and whilst we regret this time has come, I am incredibly proud to have worked alongside Jac Kelly for the last three years,” he said.

“The financial and clinical challenge facing her on arrival at the trust was enormous. Her vision for securing local services for the populations of northern and eastern Devon ensures she can claim a legacy of consistently delivering high quality, well performing and sustainable health services.

“She has returned the trust to financial balance whilst doubling the number of consultants and significantly increasing the number of frontline clinicians – nurses, therapists and care assistants.”

Ms Kelly will be taking some time after she leaves to decide her next step. She said: “It was not an easy decision, but having first arrived in 2006 as turnaround director, I feel I should now hand on to someone else to lead the organisation to Foundation Trust status.

“I feel extremely fortunate in having worked with so many dedicated and skilled staff, who are always willing to make that extra effort on behalf of patients and their families. Frontline or support, trainee or executive, the progress we have made in the past eight years is down to them.”

Mr French added: “Under her leadership we continually sought opportunities to bring local services for patients via clinical networks and innovation. That we are ahead of the game in so many ways is testament to her drive to adapt and transform services.

“Jac leaves an organisation that has a bright future and a strong track record in delivering excellent services for patients time and again. Whichever target you take, we meet the vast majority every month. This performance doesn’t happen by accident – it is as a result of concerted effort and focus by all our NHS staff.”

The trust will immediately commence recruitment of a new chief executive. Andy Robinson, director of finance and deputy chief executive, will take over in the interim.
