‘Amber alert’ issued for North Devon and Exmoor.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued ‘amber alert’ flood warnings for parts of North Devon tonight (Wednesday).

The agency has issued a flood alert for Barnstaple, Braunton, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin, with flooding possible for the Rivers Caen, Bradiford Water, Yeo and coastal streams from Braunton to Combe Martin.

Flooding is also possible throughout Exmoor from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

An EA spokesman said: “Heavy rain is predicted from 8pm on Wednesday and will cause river levels to rise, particularly on the Barnstaple Yeo.

“We are not expecting any property flooding but low lying land and roads may be affected. There is a risk of standing water due to leaf debris blocking drains.”
