The councillors, officers and business people who have been the driving force behind the new Ilfracombe information board project unveil the one on the "Southern Slopes" overlooking the seafront.

Information boards help people to discover the town’s coastal path secrets, heritage and wildlife.

A series of new information boards have gone up in Ilfracombe to help visitors and locals appreciate the South West Coast Path through the town.

The eight boards make a short trail along the South West Coast Path from Tunnels Beaches to Hillsborough Iron Age Fort, with an explanation of the wildlife, birds, geology and local history that can been seen along the way.

The project has been funded by North Devon Council, the Ilfracombe and District Tourism Association (IDTA), and the North Devon Coast AONB Sustainable Development Fund.

The project will see a second phase, with trails created to link the coast path to other parts of the town.

“These boards are an excellent addition to the tourist trail in Ilfracombe and should give visitors a fascinating insight into the varied wildlife and geology of the coast and the history of the town,” said district and town Councillor Mike Edmunds.

Marnie Quy, from the IDTA added: “Ilfracombe’s coast is steeped in history and these boards will ensure that visitors don’t miss a thing as they enjoy a walk along the stunning coastal path.”
