Bideford Town Council will be funding a webcam on the town hall showcasing the quayside 24/7.
BIDEFORD Town Council will be putting £800 towards a webcam which will broadcast views of the Quayside to the world.
The camera will be fixed to a turret on the Town Hall and will face out towards the river.
At the full council meeting last night (Thursday), councillors voted to increase the budget for the webcam from £500 to £800.
This was due to the way the camera would have to be wired into a computer in the Town Hall, which is a Grade II listed building.
Town clerk Heather Blackburn told councillors this would mean there was a potential to add another camera to the building in the future, facing in a different direction.
Councillor Andy Powell was the first to agree to the motion, saying it would be a positive move for the town.
He said: “Having a webcam that projects Bideford in all its good times can only add to the tourism value of the town.
“It’s a perfect way to advertise the town 365 days a year, 24 hours.
“In my opinion, that is money well spent.”
The webcam, when installed, will be displayed on the Bideford Town Council website.
