Barnstaple homeware store to open in former Comet on Saturday.

UP to 40 new jobs are being created with the opening of a new budget homeware store at the Roundswell Retail Park in Barnstaple on Saturday.

Home Bargains will open in the former Comet store, which has been vacant since December 2012.

The new outlet will be opened by the mayor, Cllr Val Elkins at 8.30am.

Home Bargains is part of Merseyside-based TJ Morris Ltd, which operates 330 stores across the UK.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said the firm was opening approximately 50 new stores a year.

He said: “We’re excited to be opening our first store in Barnstaple, and look forward to welcoming new customers through our doors.”

The company says it has invested around £500,000 in the 10,000 sq ft Barnstaple store, and will be selling a range of low-priced branded goods, including health and beauty, home style goods, sweets, snacks and drinks.

“Roundswell Retail Park will be a great location for us – we’re thrilled to be in a position to offer locals top branded goods, at exceptionally low prices,” added Mr Morris.
