BARNSTAPLE Mayor Ian Roome helped breakfast presenters Paul Hopper and James Chapple – aka Hopps and Chapple – to launch a brand new radio station for the town this morning (Tuesday).

The Voice 106 officially went live on FM at 9am from the station’s newly-built studios on the Square.

“Barnstaple needs its own local station and I wish the team every success over the next month,” said Cllr Roome.

The station will broadcast for 28 days under a Restricted Service Licence and parent company Network North Devon hope it will be the first of a series of short-term radio stations to cover various areas of North Devon.

Station manager Ian Starling added: “You’ll be able to hear it if you’re in the Barnstaple area and some areas just outside Barnstaple should be able to pick it up too.

“If you can’t get it on FM, you can always listen on-line at www.thevoice106.co.uk

“Tell your friends to make the switch as well and support the campaign to bring back truly local radio to North Devon.”
