New Lynmouth Pavilion project announced

Heritage Lottery Fund provides £250,000 for community and education project.

Work is well underway on the rebuilding of Lynmouth Pavilion.

EXMOOR National Park Authority has secured £250,000 to provide two new staff posts plus a range of learning, outreach and heritage work based the rebuilt Lynmouth Pavilion.

The money from the Heritage Lottery Fund, together with another £50,000 and voluntary time to bring the total to £340,000, is in addition to the £1.2 million already in hand for the pavilion regeneration.

The building is being completely rebuilt in the original 1932 style as a state-of-the-art visitor centre and community space.

The new project will see a full-time project officer and part-time volunteer coordinator recruited for a three year period to work with schools, colleges and community groups, organise activities and events such as talks, walks and workshops.

“We are very grateful to HLF for this funding which will enable so many more individuals and organisations to become part of this exciting project to produce displays, films, stories, events and even a mobile phone app to reflect experiences and knowledge of the landscape, history and wildlife of both Lynton, Lynmouth and Exmoor,” said Ben Totterdell, the National Park’s interpretation and education manager.

“These will in turn help others to enjoy and understand and explore our unique heritage.”

The authority said work on the new pavilion building was progressing well and it was hoped to have the building ready for use later this year.
