Tim Nightingale, Chief Executive of 1610, said: “We will be developing some exciting new sports and exercise programmes for the centres which will make a real difference to the health and well being of people in the area.”

The new contract is hoped to revive the existing leisure facilities in the area.

Vikki Braddick, the Leisure and Cultural Services Manager, project managed the tendering process, and said: “The council is investing a further £85,000 in Torridge pool for a new dance studio and fitness suite, and will continue investment in Torrington Pool which should re-open in the spring with a new roof.”

The contract ensure a significant annual saving for the council and local tax payers, and will begin on February 1.
