A joint county, district and parish approach by local councillors has ensured new play equipment for Ellerslie Road play area at Woodville.

District councillor Jackie Flynn and county Councillor Chris Haywood have used their community budgets and worked with Fremington Parish Council chairman Cllr Rodney Cann, who set it up in his county council role, working with the four parishes in his ward, to buy the new multi activity apparatus, which includes a slide, rope net and climbing areas.

Mrs Flynn said it seemed the area did not have a great deal for the younger children to play on and Mr Cann added: “Although there was various pieces of equipment, it didn’t really make it very attractive for the children, so we think this ticks all the boxes.”

Mr Haywood said: “It is money well spent and is what community grants are all about, making something available for the community and the kids to enjoy.”
