Buinesses, councils and organisations join together to form town centre partnership and promote Bideford.

BUSINESSES, councils and organisations in Bideford have formed a brand new partnership to help improve and promote the town.

The Bideford Town Centre Partnership will meet every month and includes representatives from the town, district and county councils.

Members of the chamber of commerce, the Businesses of Bideford (BoB), tourism association, police, pannier market, farmers’ market and North Devon + are also involved.

Chairman Graham Blight, of Country Cottage Bakery, said: “There have always been too many people with their own objectives and this is a way for us to work together to achieve common goals.”

Councillor Roger Johnson, deputy leader of Torridge District Council and vice chairman of the group, said it was exciting to ‘feel a buzz’ in the town.

“The district council cannot do it all on their own and with all these government cuts it’s important we all work together,” said Cllr Johnson.

“We can help improve the town, manage events and really use that spark of imagination to improve Bideford.”

The partnership will be hosting a free Blooming Bideford event in the town on September 14, from 10am until 4pm and are encouraging businesses to get involved.

Tonia Quance, of BoB, said: “There will be experts giving advice on gardening and a chance for people to swap seeds, plants and gardening equipment.

“We’ll also be asking businesses to sponsor flower beds in the town – it’s a way people can save money with the big swap, and help spruce up the town.”

The next meeting of the Bideford Town Centre Partnership will take place next month.
