Pupils to move into new classrooms after the Easter holidays
Primary school pupils in South Molton will be heading back to a new school after a three-week Easter break.
The brand-new South Molton United C of E Primary School and nursery at Exeter Gate is nearing completion, with children set to move across from the old North Street junior school on Monday, April 24.
Headteacher Kevin O’Donnell said: “The new school is well on the way, with just the floors and some painting left to do.
“We’ll be moving across over the Easter holidays, which start on March 31.
“All the children have been over to see the new school during the construction period and they are really excited, especially by the new outdoor spaces.”
Work on the new school started in May last year. It has eight classrooms, a large hall and various other rooms for smaller groups.
Outside, the extensive grounds will be used for sports, play, forest schools, vegetable and flower growing, as well as environmental areas to support the curriculum.
The school, which currently has 157 pupils registered, will initially accommodate 210 reception to year 6 pupils but will eventually expand to 420 places to cope with the extra housing planned for the town.
“The school is growing at the moment,” said Mr O’Donnell.
“We took in our first reception children in September and these will go on to become the school’s first year 1 and year 2 pupils.”
