New neighbourhood beat team members pledge to keep Barnstaple ‘an extremely safe place to live and work’

TWO new sergeants and a PCSO have joined the Barnstaple Police Neighbourhood Beat Team.

Sgt Helen Holmes and Sgt Ewan Seear have taken over the team replacing Sgt Paul Jones, who has moved to a new role after four years as the Neighbourhood Team Leader. They will work alongside Inspector Pete Sarney.

Both live in the town and say they are committed to keeping it a safe place to live.

Sgt Seear has been a sergeant for five years and was previously a patrol sergeant at Barnstaple and Bideford.

“I have settled down really well into my new role and am relishing the new challenge,” he said. “Our team has performed exceptionally well in previous years and I am keen to continue that performance”.

Sgt Holmes has previously worked in Plymouth, Barnstaple, Bideford and Torrington and has been a sergeant for seven years.

She said “Barnstaple is a fantastic and extremely safe place to live and work and overall crime has reduced by 20 per cent over the last three years.

“I am determined to ensure that our team remains as integrated as possible into the local community and keeps this area a safe place to be.”

New PCSO Adam Berry is also local born and bred, and took over from PCSO Gareth Woolway in May.

He joins PC Andy Ladley covering the Pilton, Bratton Fleming and Goodleigh beat and is keen to make his mark and make a positive impact on an ‘already successful and proactive team’.
