Plans to modernise a post office in Barnstaple have been welcomed by North Devon Council.

The Post Office Ltd intends to change Hele Post Office in Oakland Park, Sticklepath, into a new main-style branch, to ‘create a more modern and convenient retail experience’.

Council leader Des Brailey said: “I am very supportive of this post office and am therefore delighted to hear there will be improved and additional services, as well as longer opening hours.”

Executive member Cllr Dick Jones said: “We regard post offices as community hubs, which are really valued by local people, so this latest news is most welcome.

“The newly refurbished branch here in Sticklepath will provide a better environment for customers, with additional services, such as the ability to sort out car tax and deal with foreign currency requests.”

The new-look post office is due to open in mid February.
