Fremington woman raising money for Cystic Fibrosis Trust
A BARNSTAPLE mum is tackling the marathon in celebration of her sister’s 50th birthday.
Sharon Harwood, 51, from Fremington, will be running in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for her younger sister Sally, who suffers from the illness and turned 50 in February.
Sharon said she was an active person but had never taken on anything like a marathon before.
“Training has been difficult with the stormy weather over the past few months,” she said.
“I’m used to running in the hail, wind and rain so I’m hoping it will not be too hot on the day!
“I always watch the London Marathon on TV and felt it would be wonderful to be able to do it, especially as my sister and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust are both 50 this year.”
Cystic Fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic condition which affects thousands of people in the UK. Only half of its sufferers live past their 40th birthday.
Money raised will enable the charity to develop better treatments and, ultimately find a cure.
