Police search launched after abandoned car discovered on grass verge.
A MISSING 49-year-old woman has been airlifted to hospital after being found partially submerged in a pool of water.
The alarm was raised by a member of the public shortly after 5pm yesterday (Thursday) when an unlocked car was discovered abandoned on a grass verge in Chulmleigh.
Concern for the driver prompted an extensive ground and air search of the area by police as well as members of the Exmoor Rescue Group.
After an eight-hour search she was eventually dragged from water by a police officer and a member of the public at around 12.45am.
Still breathing but suffering from severe hypothermia, the woman was moved to a nearby field before being airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital by police helicopter.
A police spokesperson said she is likely to be transferred to Derriford Hospital later today.
