Man trapped in upside-down 4x4 airlifted to hospital

Fire crews had to cut the passenger free after the Land Rover jack-knifed off the A361 Link Road.
A MAN was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after becoming trapped in a 4x4 which jack-knifed off the A361 Link Road and down a bank yesterday (Sun).
Police arrived at the scene near Rackenford at 11.35am after reports the green Land Rover Discovery towing a trailer had ended up on its roof 15m from the road.
The driver and a passenger escaped the vehicle but a 65-year-old man, who had been a rear-seated passenger, remained trapped in the upside-down 4x4.
Fire crews from Barnstaple, South Molton, Witheridge and two specialist rescue appliances from Middlemoor were scrambled to the scene to rescue the casualty.
Using hydraulic cutting equipment and winches, they managed to cut the man free who was then airlifted to hospital.
A recovery vehicle had to use a crane to remove the car from the roadside and the road was reopened by 5pm.
