Yorkshire man had been on a night out in Barnstaple the previous evening, magistrates heard

A MAN was fined £1,000 and disqualified from driving for 14 months after flipping his car the morning after a night out drinking in Barnstaple.

Adam Jackson, 31, of George Street, Selby in North Yorkshire, failed to negotiate a corner on the A399 between Blackmoor Gate and Stowford on the morning of March 30, North Devon Magistrates’ Court heard.

Magistrates heard that the Mercedes car turned over and slid along its roof, but nobody was seriously injured.

Jackson admitted to police that he had been on a night out with his friends in Barnstaple the previous evening, but he had stopped drinking and gone to bed before his friends as he knew he would have to drive back up north in the morning.

Jackson provided police with a breathalyser sample, producing a reading of 51 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – 50 per cent above the legal limit.

Jackson’s defence solicitor said he was the father of a young child and trying to get home for mother’s day.

“He feels very remorseful for what has happened,” she said. “This was very much a one off and out of character.

“He got up the next day believing he was in a suitable state of sobriety to drive.”

Jackson was disqualified from driving for 14 months and ordered to pay £1,185 in fines, costs and victim surcharge.
