Man dies following ‘serious’ collision near South Molton

Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed that a man has died following a serious collision near South Molton on Tuesday, September 12.
Police have confirmed a 24-year-old man has died following a serious road traffic collision in Knowlestone near South Molton.
Emergency services were called at 6.50am yesterday morning (Tuesday, September 12) following the collision between a Honda 125cc motorcycle and a Volvo HGV near Moortown Barton picnic area on the road parallel to the A361.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “The motorcyclist, who was local, was fatally injured as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
“For reasons yet to be determined, both vehicles collided almost head on at the apex of a gradual bend.
“As a result of the impact a fire subsequently developed which caused significant damage to both vehicles involved.
“The weather at the time of the collision was good although the road surface was damp.”
Road closures and diversions were put in place whilst emergency services worked at the incident and traffic officers carried out their investigations.
