Investigation underway but death of local man at Riley’s Bar on Saturday night is thought to have been accidental.

A man fell to his death from the terrace of Riley’s Bar in Bideford last night (Saturday).

The local man, thought to be in his 30s, is understood to have fallen 30 feet from a railing at the High Street bar, which is owned by the Royal British Legion.

Brian Saunders from the Legion confirmed the man had fallen at around 11.40pm, in what is thought to have been an accident.

Police and ambulance were called and scenes of crime officers are on site today.

“Our condolences and our thoughts go out to his family and friends,” said Mr Saunders, who was at Riley’s Bar until the early hours of this morning.

“We always follow health and safety rules and regulations. The area was inspected by Torridge District Council and it met all their legal requirements.”
