Five fire crews called out to fight fire at R & L Laundry in Mullacott Industrial Estate yesterday (Sunday).

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson after fire fighters were called out to Mullacott Cross Industrial Estate early yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Crews from Braunton and Ilfracombe were scrambled to R & L Laundry at 6.15am and after a staff member spotted smoke issuing from the single storey building.

They gained entry to the mid-terrace property wearing breathing apparatus and called for back up from Woolacombe and an aerial platform ladder.

Environmental Protection and a gas engineer from Wales and West Utility were called out to the scene as well as another fire engine from South Molton.

Four fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus battled the flames using two hose reel jets while gas supplies to the property were isolated.

After two hours the fire was brought under control and fire investigators entered the building to try and find the cause of the blaze.

Police confirmed a 59-year-old local man was arrested that afternoon and bailed until October 25.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on non-emergency number 101 quoting crime ref: CR/099065/14.
