A Bideford woman is running the London Marathon for her mum who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
Nicola Cann, marketing co-ordinator at Atlantic Village, applied for a chartiy place for Breast Cancer Care after her mum Sue’s diagnosis.
The 28-year-old has organised several charity nights ahead of the marathon, and has raised more than £5,000 so far.
Nicola said: “My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2017.
“It hit my family incredibly hard and throughout it all I felt completely helpless.
“I came across a London Marathon advert on Facebook, and full of admiration for my Mum I applied for a charity place, knowing that running a marathon would be nothing compared to what my mum had been through.
“When I applied I’d only been running for six months with my local running club Just Jog, and my furthest run had been eight miles.
But I’ve always liked a challenge and I know it’ll be an experience I’ll never forget (for the good and the bad).”
