THE North Devon Gazette is pleased and proud to launch this year’s Light Up a Life appeal for North Devon Hospice and Children’s Hospice South West.

Once again, the charities are teaming up to offer people the opportunity to remember someone they love this Christmas by making a donation in their memory.

The proud association between the two charities and the Gazette is now in its 15th year and in that time the appeal has raised more than £300,000 shared between the two hospices.

It has provided great comfort to thousands of people throughout the years, as they honour the memory of someone who is no longer with us.

"Light Up a Life is a unique occasion, where people come together to remember those dear to us."

People are asked to make a donation for candles to be lit in memory of loved ones, whose names are included in books of remembrance. A series of special church services are held all over North Devon and Torridge during December.

Gerard Fawcitt, from North Devon Hospice’s fundraising team, said: “Light Up a Life is a unique occasion, where people come together to remember those dear to us. Whether you send in your donation or come to one of the many services taking place across the area, you have the chance to part of something special.

“We support those with cancer and other illnesses, and we will be doing so 24-hours-a-day throughout the Christmas period. Your donation could help us make Christmas that little bit more comfortable for someone who is in great need, whether at the hospice or in their own home.”

Emma Perry, from Children’s Hospice South West, said: “Children’s Hospice South West relies almost entirely on the generosity of the local community to fund the unique and precious service that we provide.

"By remembering a loved one this Christmas and making a donation in their memory you will be helping local life-limited children and their families for many years to come."

“By remembering a loved one this Christmas at one of our services and making a donation in their memory you will be helping local life-limited children and their families for many years to come.”

Gazette editor, Andy Keeble, said: “Like most charities, both hospices are having to work harder to raise the money which funds their vital services in the region so it’s more important than ever to support this year’s appeal.

“Our readers have offered their unfailing and generous support for this appeal for many years and we know they will continue to do.”

You can remember someone close to you by filling in one of the slips printed on page 2 of the North Devon Gazette. The name of your loved ones will then be entered into a special Light Up a Life Book of Remembrance and a light will be lit in their memory. The book will be available to view at the range of services which take place in November and December.
