Barnstaple Christmas lights switch on 2017 will also see a very special launch for this year’s Light Up a Life Appeal

The Gazette’s Light Up a Life Appeal takes off in stellar fashion on Sunday, November 19 as giant stars are switched on around Barnstaple.

This year the appeal for both North Devon Hospice and children’s Hospice South West will be launched at the Barnstaple Christmas Lights event on the square on Sunday.

A giant town centre star will lit at 5.15pm to launch the appeal before the big switch on at 6 and stars will also be lit at each hospice and the Gazette offices.

On the night, host Seth Conway will introduce the appeal and there will be carols from a local primary school before bereaved family members from each hospice will tell the crowd why the appeal is so special and what it means to them.

Now in its 21st year, the appeal invites people to remember a loved one at Christmas time by making a donation for a candle in their memory.

There are also a series of services at venues around the region from the beginning of December.
