Barnstaple Carnival organisers have selected a queen and two princesses to lead this year’s procession on September 17.

Liberty Sheldon, aged 13, from Barnstaple, will be this year’s carnival queen.

The Park Community School pupil was selected at a special ‘queen choosing’ event at the Barnstaple Hotel on July 14.

She will be attended by carnival princesses Skye Piper and Evie Rose-Wall, both aged eight, from Bickington.

The queen will receive prize money of £250 and the princesses will each receive £100, thanks to sponsorship by David Hunt, franchisee of the town’s McDonald’s restaurants.

Are you a former Barnstaple carnival queen?

Former Barnstaple carnival queens of the last 50 years are being invited to attend a carnival queen reunion at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon on September 15 – part of a major celebration of Barnstaple Fair taking place at the museum throughout the summer.

To get involved visit the museum or call 01271 346747.
