Last pieces of South Molton Museum to be handed over

District council looks set to relinquish all control of the museum and leave it to the town council.

North Devon Council is proposing to transfer South Molton Museum’s collection to the town council.

The district council owns the collection and is the governing body for the museum, but the town council owns the building, employs staff and has a budget for its operation.

Today (Tuesday) councillors at NDC’s executive committee were being advised to transfer its ownership of the collection plus governance over, leaving the town council in full control of the museum.

NDC would continue to offer advice and support if required, or work with the museum on joint projects, as it does now.
