POOR Rufus the Lion is hoping he won’t have to scoot alone this May Day as he waits forlornly at Braunton Athletics Track for others to join him in a big charity Scootathlon.

The mini fun triathlon for children aged four to nine-years-old is being hosted by Barnstaple Lions Club at the track on Monday, May 5 and runs from 10am-3pm.

It will be raising money for the Caroline Thorpe ward at North Devon District Hospital and it is hoped as many children as possible will have a go on the day.

Youngsters are invited to scoot 400 metres, cycle 400 meters and then run 120 metres, with the whole family urged to go along to cheer them on and enjoy the family fun.

There will also be a wide range of stalls, plus a bouncy castle and other fun activities.

Closing date for entries is April 21 and forms can be downloaded www.barnstaplelionsclub.org
