A Barnstaple social club for people with learning disabilities has clubbed together to raise £370 for Children in Need.

Members and support workers of The Vibe, run by local group Empowering Lives, took on a number of challenges to raise money for the cause, led by support worker Jo Saunders, who had her head shaved.

Sponsored silences, a car wash and a cake sale also helped to push up the fundraising total.

Jo said: “I did it 10 years ago, too, for Comic Relief, and it’s always one of those things that people think you shouldn’t do, but it’s always high-profile.

“It was a really good way to bring people in and be a role model to say you can do anything.

“Plus, Children in Need is a brilliant cause and we raised a fantastic amount.”

The group sees 30 people doing arts and crafts and other activities at Barnstaple Football Club on Mondays and Thursdays.

They’re holding a Christmas fair on Monday, open to the public, to raise money for new equipment and activities.
