HUNDREDS of people packed into South Molton square to enjoy the sunshine at the Old English Fayre this weekend.

Events included the crowning of the fayre queen, Maisy-Beth Grimley, maypole dancing and a ‘battle of the bands’.

Stephen White, fayre committee chairman, said he was ‘delighted’ with how the weekend had gone.

“It went very well, especially because it was the first time in four years we’ve had good weather,” said Mr White.

“I believe there must have been around 300 people watching our new items, the Battle of the Bands, which saw Tiverton, Appledore and Crediton compete for top place.

“We had children’s games in the pannier market and 26 visiting mayors and mayoresses.

“On Sunday, we also had our Father’s Day breakfast which was well attended.

“We were delighted with how the weekend turned out and would like to thank everyone who helped out, including the Rotary and Lions club.”
