The Eco Group from Ilfracombe Junior School, pictured with volunteer Terry Elliott, are getting involved with this year's big Spring Clean in the town.

People and groups in the town urged to get involved and help spruce up the town for the new tourist season.

ILFRACOMBE’S Spring Clean kicks off in the coming weeks and individuals, groups and organisations are being urged to do their biut to make the town spic and span for the new season.

A small band of volunteers are organising the annual event, which will take place the first two weeks in April in Ilfracombe.

This will coincide with the launch of the One Ilfracombe Town Team and the two groups are working together to make a greater impact.

It is hoped that many community groups and clubs will get involved and organise their own projects, such as litter picking on the beaches, adopting a flower bed in Bicclescombe Park, painting and cleaning shop fronts or painting benches on the seafront.

The Infant and Junior schools have been approached to encourage the children to get involved and to have their own projects.

A group of 19 children from the Eco Club from Year 5 at the Junior School recently attended a meeting of the Litter Group to talk about the projects they are involved with and to offer ideas for future initiatives.

Funding has been secured from Ilfracombe Town Council for some new litter bins along the seafront to replace and these will be fitted over in the next few weeks.

It is also intended to clean and tidy up the War Memorial in the centenary year of the start of the First World War.

People can get involved either by initiating their own project or in helping with organised events. Contact Anne Thomas at or Steve Seatherton via if you can help in anyway.
