Ilfracombe seeks to recruit more on call fire fighters

Recruitment drive for more retained crew during day times and week days.

ILFRACOMBE Fire Station is hosting open evenings this month to recruit more on-call fire fighters.

The events are on Thursday, May 15 at 6.30pm and Sunday, May at 10.30am, but people are also welcome to visit the station any time between 9am-5pm from Monday to Friday and find out more.

The fire service is seeking people, who live or work near the station in Marlborough Road and can respond within five minutes between Monday to Friday, especially during the day time. A full driving license is preferable and applicants need to be aged over 18.

No previous experience is necessary, apart from a commitment to the community, a positive attitude and a good level of fitness.

The fire service will give people advice and help in preparing for both the written and practical assessments.

After budget cuts last year, Ilfracombe is set to see its full time day crew removed and replaced with retained personnel.
