Lorinda and Paul Langford gave up high flying jobs to open The Darnley Hotel in Ilfracombe

The owners of Ilfracombe’s Darnley Hotel want to put it on the map after throwing in their high powered jobs up country and moving to the town.

On Friday, Lorinda and Paul Langford celebrated their first year at the hotel in Belmont Road and they hope to let more people know they are out there and open for lunches, dinners and events.

They moved down with Lorinda’s mother Patricia Gillman, who stipulated it had to be beside the seaside and led to their choice of Ilfracombe. Sadly Patricia passed away a month ago and did not get to see the first anniversary.

The couple moved down from Berkshire. Lorinda was a finance manager and Paul worked for AWE, but they decided on a change of life.

Lorinda said: “It’s been a burning desire of mine to run a hotel and we just got the itch to leave our jobs and follow the dream.”

In what they believe is a quieter end of town they want to be able to offer local somewhere for morning coffee, something to eat and Sunday lunches, as well as being available for functions or business events – The Darnley recently hosted a CombeBusiness networking evening.

Christmas in New York is the theme for this year’s Christmas party season. Call 01271 863955 or visit http://thedarnleyhotel.co.uk/
