Archant

Big tides have given contractors even less time to work in as repairs continue on historic Old Quay Head.

Contractors working on repairing the Old Quay Head at Ilfracombe are racing to get back on schedule after the huge tides of recent weeks.

The urgent repairs are being carried out by Dyer and Butler, but they can only work while the tide is out – a window made even smaller during the storm surge.

Harbour board chairman, Councillor Geoff Fowler, said they were working flat out under extremely difficult conditions to try and make up any lost time. The work on the listed structure is scheduled for completion in April.
