MUCH Morris mania, tinkling of bells and licking of lips will be coming to Ilfracombe on the weekend of July 12-13 with the arrival of All Things Morris and the first ever North Devon Street Food Awards.

The street food awards are part of the All Things Morris festival which runs for a packed weekend and includes a Morris vehicle rally and show, Morris dancing and other entertainment as well local musicians, Dennis the Morris Horse and a craft and art fayre on Fore Street.

Vendors will be lining up their food carts on the Saturday, with the chance to sample a huge range of delicious street food from Thai and seafood to hotdogs and Caribbean delights.

They will be competing for the coveted ‘Maurices’ trophies and this week Gloria O’Connell and Arlene Collins of main sponsors Marsdens Cottage holidays met with Heather McNeilly of Shoreline Glass in Ilfracombe as the first ‘Maurice’ came out of the kiln.

Morris groups from across the country will descend on Ilfracombe on the weekend of July 12-13, with Cats Eye pictured here.Morris groups from across the country will descend on Ilfracombe on the weekend of July 12-13, with Cats Eye pictured here.

Rather than buy trophies off the shelf, Ilfracombe glass artist Heather was commissioned to create something unique for the inaugural awards.

There will be a ‘People’s Choice’ award in addition to the main awards plus a secret ingredient competition provided by S&P Fish. Vendors will be open for business from midday and Wizard Brewery will be providing bar facilities including a Morris festival ale called Ale Things Morris, Not For Minors.

Organiser Events 4 Ilfracombe is also offering free dance and music workshops for anyone who wants to learn to Morris dance or play traditional music. They are being provided by professional Morris training company The Great Caper from Bristol. Numbers are limited so book a place by emailing events@visitilfracombe.co.uk or call the Tourist Information Centre on 01271 863001.
