Former specials inspector is named as overall winner of the Pride in Ilfracombe Awards 2013.
A familiar face from many Ilfracombe events during the past two decades has been named as the town’s Citizen of the Year.
Jacqueline Windett retired as a special constable inspector in December after 21 years with the police service, but continues to give her spare time to help people in Ilfracombe and beyond.
She has joined Ilfracombe Rotary Club and in addition to its many good works, is still a member of the Ilfracombe Community Safety Panel.
Jacqui was among 11 community stalwarts who received a town council Pride in Ilfracombe Award in December, and was chosen as overall winner for 2013.
Presenting the award at Monday’s annual town meeting and Mayor Making, outgoing Mayor, Councillor Lynda Courtnadge said: “I can’t speak highly enough of Jacqui and I’m delighted she has been chosen for this award.”
Jacqui said she felt very honoured and could not believe she had been chosen: “I feel very privileged to receive this and would like to thank everyone involved in the nomination, as well as Rotary for their support.
“I will continue to do what I can for the community in any way I can.”
