Don’t miss Ilfracombe’s festive extravaganza on the weekend of November 24-26
Ilfracombe starts its Christmas with the annual Lighting of the Lights on Friday, November 24 followed by a weekend of festive fun.
Thousands will turn out at war memorial square, with the build up from 6.15pm, a lantern-lit parade of children and the big switch on at 7pm.
The switch on will be carried out from the traditional open top bus with carols and Christmas songs in the build up plus Santa’s sleigh, costumed characters, a Christmas blessing by Father John Roles and fireworks.
Then follow the bus to the High Street for late night shopping, street food and entertainment.
The square and town has a host of new lights for this year, courtesy of the Combe Christmas Committee and should be something to behold.
The new lights were awarded following success at the Blachère Christmas Lights Competition earlier on in the year in Blackpool.
Charmain Lovett from the committee said: “Hopefully it will be a new Christmasified area to be proud of as a town.
“We hope the whole weekend will offer something for every member of the family.”
Teams of volunteers electricians have been working hard to get everything ready for the big day.
On Saturday and Sunday the two-day Ilfracombe Christmas Market will be held at the Ropery Road car park, with live music, a host of artisan stalls, gift ideas, yummy food and Santa will be there too.
On the Sunday there will be lots of children’s entertainment throughout the afternoon until 3.30pm, followed by the grand draw for the prize-packed Combe Christmas Raffle.
That will be followed by a carol concert plus an informal festive parade (do dress up) to the Pier and finishing with a fireworks display.
The Driftwood Gallery will have an open house on the Sunday with plenty of fizz on offer and a festive atmosphere from 2-6pm.
There is the chance to win a stunning signed limited edition by internationally acclaimed Henderson Cisz (Flower Stall Amsterdam) which has been entered into the gallery’s charity raffle.
Tickets are on sale in the gallery and other outlets around Ilfracombe. Other prizes include £250 cash, holiday vouchers, meals out and more.
