Police are warning drivers to take care on the icy roads after car veers off the road in Brayford and another overturns in Meath.

POLICE are warning drivers to take care on the icy roads after several collisions this morning (Thursday).

Shortly after 5am, a silver Vauxhall Astra veered off the A399 near Brayford and slid down a 15ft bank, landing on its side.

A police spokesman said the car was ‘totalled’ though the driver was unhurt.

The road was covered in a snow and ice at the time, and while police were at the scene another car slid on the surface as well.

In a separate incident, a blue Renault Clio overturned on the A386 just before 11am on an icy road near Meath.

The road was blocked in both directions but the female driver was unhurt.

Several roads have experienced snow and hail this morning and gritters have been out on the main highways.

North and West Devon police said on Twitter: “Please take care on the high ground there is snow and ice settling making conditions for driving dangerous #StaySafe#firsthandknowledge.”
