Friends and family raise more than £2,000 for daughter

HUNDREDS of friends, family and local people were at Barnstaple Rugby Club on Saturday to celebrate the life of former player Ian Locke, who passed away earlier this year.

Friends set up the day to raise money for Ian’s one-year-old daughter Lili, with a number of activities going no throughout the day including a fancy dress rugby tournament, raffle and exotic animal exhibit.

Ian’s mum, Rhona, said her son would have been ‘thrilled’ with it all.

“It’s wonderful for the family to see how much he was loved and cared for and the financial side will help Lili tremendously in the future,” she said.

“I think he would have been thrilled to bits and would probably have been the first one out on that pitch!

“It’s been a brilliant turnout and so nice to see so many people that we haven’t seen for ages.”

Ian’s sister Elaine echoed those sentiments.

“We’d just like to say a big thank you to everybody for coming and all the companies that donated things for the day. Ian would have loved it.”

More than 120 prizes were donated to for the raffle and auction, with the day raising more than £2,000 for Lili.
