Judges given difficult task of shortlisting four designs to put forward to public vote.

HUNDREDS of people have submitted designs in a competition to design an official flag for Exmoor.

Organisers of the Exmoor Flag Project say they have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response to the competition, which closed last month.

A total of 261 designs were submitted from all over Devon – as far away as Florida, Spain and Australia.

Entrants aged two to 93 submitted designs created using computer software, as well as more traditional pencils, pens, paints and fabric.

Many featured wildlife, including red deer stag and Exmoor ponies.

A judging panel, featuring Exmoor wildlife enthusiast Johnny Kingdom, will meet at Dulverton Town Hall on Wednesday to shortlist four entries.

The four designs will then be put to a public vote, which will open on August 18 and close on September 8. The winning design will be unveiled during a special ceremony in October.

The flag will be registered with the Flag Institute as an official UK flag.

You can choose your favourite design at exmoorflag.co.uk from August 18.
