South West Water engineers called to repair fault

Hundreds of homes in Barnstaple are understood to be currently without water.

Many residents in Whiddon Valley, Forches, Newport and Bishops Tawton have reported a disruption in service, including in Oak Tree Drive, Magnolia Close, Westacott Meadow, Primrose Avenue and Hawthorn Road.

It is understood that the problem has been caused by a burst pipe in Eastern Avenue.

South West Water has contacted customers to apologise for the lack of water.

The message said: “South West Water is aware that some customers are experiencing a disruption to their supply.

“We have dispatched an engineer and will provide further updates when available; we apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

UPDATE (11pm): South West Water has told the Gazette that water should be restored within the hour, and that some properties have already had their water restored.
