Horse rescued from riverbank at Chulmleigh

Fire crews were called out this afternoon (Thurs) after the horse became stuck in the mud.

FIRE fighters were called out to Bridge Reeve in Chulmleigh on the River Taw to rescue a horse stuck in the mud on the riverbank today (Thurs).

The bank of the river had been undercut due to flooding and the Clydesdale horse, whose paddock ran alongside the bank, was believed to have slipped in.

The specialist rescue team from Barnstaple arrived at the scene just after 4pm and helped the horse scrambled out of the mud to safety.

The horse was then checked over by a vet on the scene.
