A LOCAL photographer has become an associate of the prestigious Royal Photographic Society.

Denzil Bath specialises in working with old negatives, and is thought to be the only practitioner in the South West of the wet plate collodion process used in Victorian times.

As a member of the society’s historical interest group, Denzil has been approached to make a presentation on the wet plate process to other members.

He now offers workshops in this black and white process, as well as running the family photographic business, Bath Photographic, in Bideford.

Denzil grew up with the business, and one of his father’s first assignments in 1956 was the photograph the Queen’s visit to Barnstaple.

Following his father’s interest, Denzil studied photography at Plymouth University and worked abroad before returning to the family business.

Denzil’s main focus now is portraiture and restoring old black and white images, but is extremely proud of gaining his associate status.

The Royal Photographic Society holds over 300 events around the UK and abroad, and maintains standards and promotes excellence in photographers.
