FLOOD warnings have been issued for coastal areas around North Devon and Torridge due to high spring tides tonight (Tuesday).

The Environment Agency has issued warnings for low lying coastal communities including Clovelly, Westward Ho!, Watermouth Cove, Combe Martin and Lynmouth.

A further warning has also been issued for the River Torridge including Weare Giffard, Bideford East-the-Water, Wooder Wharf and Northam.

High tide tonight will fall at 8pm in Bideford and 8.15pm in Ilfracombe.

A spokesman for the EA said: “High spring tides will lead to high water levels on the coast from tonight’s high tide.

“This could lead to flooding of a small number of individual properties and possible localised travel disruption.

“The Environment Agency is operating coastal defences and working with our professional partners to make any necessary preparations; our staff will be monitoring sea levels and the performance of flood defences.”
